Heavy Metals

What are “heavy metals”?  Generally speaking, heavy metals include arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, selenium, and thallium. They are called “heavy” because of their relatively high atomic mass or density, weighing in at 5 times or more of that of water. These metals can accumulate in the soft tissues of the body at very low concentrations and cause harm or death to humans, animals, and even plants. Even though the concentrations of these substances may be low, the accumulation over time of small doses can cause them to multiply in strength. One or two micrograms can be enough to cause toxicity or death.

Heavy metals can accumulate in our bodies from a variety of sources.  Vaccinations are a primary culprit, which contain high levels of Mercury. However, old style silver fillings contain the same dangerous substance.  If left to accumulate over time, heavy metals can cause toxicity levels in our bodies that create imbalances and dis-ease.  These imbalances can encompass a variety of maladies to include blindness, endocrine system disruptions, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

What can be done to reduce the accumulation of heavy metals? Many people are now choosing to avoid vaccinations such as the flu shot, and are becoming more educated and vigilant in identifying ways to live a “cleaner” lifestyle.  Anything from buying organics meats, fruits, and vegetables to avoiding the use of pesticides and fertilizers are becoming standard choices.

Several chelating methods are also an option for drawing metals and toxins out of our bodies.  These include substances such as fiber, that can bind and draw toxins from our organs and digestive tract, and keep them away from the brain. There are also certain essential oils that have been proven to be effective in releasing heavy metals from our tissues.  Care must be taken in these processes so as to not cleanse and detoxify too aggressively, or there may be unpleasant symptoms to contend with.
